In Tanzania we feature Pierr'e van Tonder. Tanzania sits in the coast of the Indian Ocean and is further bordered by Mozambique and Zambia in the south, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burundi and Rwanda to the west, and Kenya to the north. It is roughly twice the size of California . The bulk of our hunting takes place in the Selous's Ruaha River concessions, specifically R2 and R4. Other camps have been established in Masailand. The Selous concessions encompasses an area the size of Switzerland and you will find no development, no villages, nothing but wilderness to hunt in. It is well-known for its buffalo. Elephant, lion and leopard hunting is above average. Antelope species that are in very good abundance include the greater kudu and the sable. Eland are also particularly noteworthy. The terrain here is heavily forested with widely scattered openings. Miombo trees dominate the vegetation, and is more than a little mixed with seriously thick stuff. Hunts in Tanzania are broken up into three basic varieties: 10-day, 16-day and 21-day safaris. Ten-day hunts allow the taking of at least one buffalo, leopard and some of the more common plains species. Sixteen-day safaris allow three buffalo and a wide variety of plains game. The 21-day safari allows both cats, adds elephant and the "royal" antelope species. The hunting season in Tanzania begins July 1st and runs through December |
